Friction.
Resistance or support?

We usually speak about friction as something we want to remove.

It slows things down. It makes movement harder. It asks for more effort.

But without enough friction, a foot can lose its grip. An object can slide when we need it to stay steady.

What resists movement can also provide support.

That makes me ask a different question about the resistance in our lives.

Is it blocking something useful? Or is it helping us hold our ground?

An unnecessary process can waste our energy. An honest question can improve our decision. A boundary can feel uncomfortable and still protect something important.

These are different kinds of resistance. I do not want to treat them all as the same.

I do not believe that every difficulty is good for us. Some resistance needs to be challenged, reduced, or left behind.

But removing every point of friction may also remove the support we need.

Perhaps the aim is not a life without resistance.
Perhaps it is knowing what to reduce—and what to keep.
